User Guide for the UTM Link Builder
Welcome to the UTM Link Builder!
This tool helps you create custom URLs with UTM parameters for tracking the performance of your marketing campaigns in Google Analytics or other analytics platforms. Here’s a quick guide to help you get started.
What is a UTM Link?
A UTM link is a URL with special parameters added to track specific details about your traffic sources. Using UTM parameters in your URLs allows you to know where your visitors are coming from, which campaigns are performing best, and how to optimize your marketing efforts.
How to Use the UTM Link Builder:
-
Enter Your Website URL
This is the page where you want to direct your visitors. For example, it could be your homepage, a product page, or a landing page (e.g.,https://example.com
). -
Campaign Source (utm_source)
This is where your traffic is coming from. Common sources include:- Newsletter
-
Campaign Medium (utm_medium)
The medium is how the traffic is arriving. Common examples include:- CPC (cost per click for paid ads)
- Email (for email marketing)
- Social (for organic social media traffic)
- Banner (for display ad campaigns)
-
Campaign Name (utm_campaign)
The campaign name helps you identify the specific campaign or promotion. For example:summer_sale
product_launch
black_friday
-
Campaign Term (utm_term - Optional)
This field is primarily used for paid search (PPC) campaigns. If you're using keywords in your ad campaigns, you can enter the keyword here (e.g.,best_shoes
). -
Campaign Content (utm_content - Optional)
If you're A/B testing different versions of an ad or link, use this field to distinguish between them. For example, you could enterad1
for the first version andad2
for the second.
Example:
Let’s say you’re running a Google ad for a summer sale on your website, and you want to track its performance. You could fill in the form like this:
- Website URL:
https://example.com
- Campaign Source:
google
- Campaign Medium:
cpc
- Campaign Name:
summer_sale
The generated UTM link will look like this:
https://example.com?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=summer_sale
Copy the Link
After you generate the UTM link, it will be displayed in the text area. You can click the "Copy this Code" button to copy the link and use it in your marketing campaigns, such as in emails, social media posts, or ads.
Why Use UTM Links?
